Why does a boss want to monitor his employees?

Nowadays, more and more companies access to the Internet.  Internet has become a key business tool. However, with the Internet being widely used,  one problem occurs——abusement. Some employees watch videos, chat with others, and even send some important data of the company to its competitors.Can you tell how much loss will a company suffer because of the abuse of the Internet coming from its own employees?
